I only watched FLCL quite recently and I’m not too sure how to feel about it. I know people that adore it, but it might fall just that bit too far left of the centre for me. And this is coming from someone who generally enjoys weirdness in all it’s forms.
Watched the Cowboy Bebop movie the other day. It’s not bad, but it just feels like an extended episode. However, it reminded me again of how much I love the music from the show.
I feel like I’m featuring too many songs from cartoons, but here’s another one anyway.
In fact, it’s another from Cowboy Bebop. This was the last song I heard on my ride to work today and it’s just so damn beautiful.

Warning: Very slight spoilers for Neon Genesis Evangelion
Wonderful artist / blogger, Ang Wei Tyng, just posted about how recent anime series have left her feeling quite devastated. This reminded me of the final scenes of the anime End of Evangelion – which I personally found devastating (and brilliant). This is the song that plays during one of the most bizarre yet beautiful moments of absolute apocalyptic destruction ever. It would have been an obvious choice to have epic orchestral music during such a scene, but instead they went with this, which somehow makes it so much better. Just listening to it again brings back a lot of feels.
As a mild-to-moderate anime-geek it’s a little shameful that I only got around to watching Cowboy Bebop quite recently. When I finally did, the main thought I had was “damn, that theme song kicks ass!”
